"Real world" design

Very frustrating last couple of weeks, I've learnt now what it is to be a designer in the "real world".  I have just finished working for 6 weeks on a project for the Daily Mail, an insert for the company I work for.  Only to have it complete with sign-off to be told it isn't going ahead and the whole 6 weeks were for nothing!

I know its going to be a fact of life throughout my career but it is sole destroying!  But I learnt a lot from it; how newspapers work, how they don't work and how temperamental these businesses can be!

Oh well, onwards and upwards onto my next piece of work for the Telegraph to be in on the 6th June, a simple insert with clean lines, nice images and lots of style sheets! I can't wait!!

Brand Identification by Colour

I found this quite interesting... it is about brand identity and how we recognised them by the colour they are representated by.

For example:
Cadburys is purple
Easyjet is orange
AA is yellow & black.

It just goes to show how colour is just as important to logo design.

I still find it amusing that T-mobile tried to copyright using magenta for their brand colour!!

Although I don't live in London (one day I will dream!), the London Transport Museum is one of my favourites!  Along with their design, over recent years it has come on leaps & bounds, it is simple, sophisticated & pretty much gorgeous! When I go to London I always look forward to seeing what is new sides of the underground or around on bus stops. This design exhibition of the new London bus designs will be extremely interesting - so it will be a definate must see!

I can't believe that London Transport came under fire for opening this up to everyone as a national competition - you only get the best from seeing everyone.

My New Logo

Just thought I'd post my new "logo" I'm particularly pleased with it - it is just something I like to have as an icon to go across my work (including website, self-promo, CV etc). A stroke of genius on my part! :)

OK... So I'm a bit new to all this!

Hiya - this is one of those times when you never know how to start writing...

I'm a little behind the times with blogging etc, but I just wanted somewhere that was food for thought - everyone has so much going on in their heads most of the time but never manage to write it down or tell people (me included) that I thought this the perfect way to help me!

At the moment - I'm re-designing my website (but feel free to look at the old one), I'm not current job I've learnt a lot more about Dreamweaver and programming that I thought it the perfect challenge to make my own website from scratch as I had help with my last one! This also allows me to try a new approach to presenting my work and putting a portfolio together.

It might take me a while to get used to this blogging malarky - trying to figure about posting links/images etc but I'm sure I'll get there soon. I've seen a few interesting re-designing projects recently that I'd love to put on here - so I best go and work out how to do that then get back to doing some serious work!
